How Nigerian artistes failed to fly at AFRIMA 2015
The long awaited All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, has come and gone.
The chips went down at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island on Sunday, with high
hopes on Nigeria artistes to repeat the feat they achieved at the maiden
edition of the award in 2014, where they carted home 12 of the 23
continental awards. But that was not to be this year.
If
not for the standard they set last year some would have still argued it
was a respectable outing for them, with 8 awards in their kitty. Praiz
won the Best African Artiste (RnB & soul); Darey got Best African
Artiste (Inspirational); Flavour snapped up Best African Artiste
(African Electro); Revelation of the Year went to Adekunle Gold; Most
Promising African Artiste to Kiss Daniel; Best African Artiste in Jazz
to Kunle while Olamide and Yemi Alade won the Best West African Artiste,
male and female categories respectively.
However, when it comes to the big ones like the Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Group in Africa they were completely out of the picture. And these four categories were all won by them last year. Davido who clinched all 4 big ones was completely missing in action. He won The Best African Hip Hop, Song of the Year; Artiste of the Year, and Best Male Artiste in West Africa. Shakiti Bobo crooner, Olamide came home with the coveted Album of the Year award while the sensational twins, P-Square got the Best African Group award.
The only person that featured on the winners list is Olamide and what he got was Best Male Artiste in West Africa which was won by Davido in2014.
Nigeria has nominations in all the 24 categories applicable to the country except in the categories: Best African Hip Hop, Best African Rock and Best African Traditional Music. It means the country is open to collect 21 awards, where in most cases they dominated the Nominees list. Of all the 174 nominations in which the country is eligible, it had 63 nominations. But all the country could mustered is 8 awards, meaning they lost in 13 categories.
Interestingly, Nigerian artistes had bigger presence in most of the big continental awards. For Album of the Year award for an instance, there were 9 nominees and Nigerians account for 5. Yemi Alade, Psquare, Bez Idakula, Wizkid and Flavour were all nominated but it was Charlotte Dipanda, from Cameroon, that carried the day. She is one of two Cameroonians nominated in this category. Ghana and Sudan got one nomination a piece. Last year it was won by Olamide.

When students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso
stormed major roads in the city to protest continued robbery attacks on
their female hostel and raping the helpless ladies, they did not in
their wildest dreams think that the said robbers could be among them.

The attacks attracted reactions from different groups and even the Oyo State House of Assembly. One of the groups,Women Against Rape, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Exploitation (WARSHE) condemned the serial cases of rape, sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence on students of the institution.The group described the lawless and inhuman acts as “brutal, r eckless use of male power and violation of rights of innocents girls.”
In a statement signed by its Programme Officer, Titilope Olanrewaju, the group stated, “It is based on this that WARSHE thereby considers this latest act of the LAUTECH rapists as highly barbaric, inhuman and despicable, particularly in this day and age, when the global community through several international conventions and treaties such as the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women, is united against sexual violence and other forms of assault against women. Pope Francis sees a third world war
His Holiness, Pope Francis condemned the terror attacks on Paris,that left no few than 129 persons dead and 352 injured.
In an interview over the phone,His Holiness described the attacks as inhuman. He expressed his awe at how humans could be scary.

The reality star told Ryan Seacrest on Friday that her main concern of expanding her family anymore after the imminent arrival of her son, was whether she would be able to give husband Kanye West the attention he needs. And not only that their daughter North.
She told the radio host: ‘I’m very content with just having two (children).
‘My husband needs a lot of attention, each kid needs a lot of attention, I work a lot, [and] I want to be able to give everyone just the same amount of attention.’

She still has six weeks to go and said: 'I am so over it...I am beyond over it.'

Letter to All Akokites; 6 Weeks of Our Lives – Written by Hammed Mustapha
“It is terrible in school and more terrible at home”, “Bring back our school days”. This are two of the numerous updates on boredom I have been getting from my fellow University of Lagos students via instant messaging applications in less than one week of vacation.
I am sure you have also gotten something similar too or you have perhaps updated something of such nature yourself. Well, I had a chat with one of the concerned akokite with regards the rant on boredom and I was perplexed to know that all he has in plans going home was “to add weight”. My jaw literally dropped in shock, such amazement that made me consider “add weight” a figurative expression rather than literal and to add salt to my injury, he then made me see through his plans by relating “adding weight” solely to his outlook!!!
I am neither writing to judge a friend nor make public a private conversation but I am writing because a host of us are still not sure on what this 6 weeks of our lives respectively should or can be used for. As a concerned akokite and an advocate of common sense, I will be sharing some anecdotes, llustrations and suggestions all on the subject matter and I am sure if well digested like a well prepared fufu and vegetable soup it will inspire us to take actions and also help us get maximum benefit from the not too long and not too short holiday.
Now take a walk with me through this, do we all have three hundred and sixty five days in a year? Of course YES will be the common response but to me, NO we do not! We have we do not! We have as many days in a year as we make use of. Let me further massacre the analysis of time like an hungry man will do to a bowl of eba and a well garnished melon soup. There is a cliche as to the number of hours we tend to use to rest (sleep), ‘they say’ we should sleep for eight hours a day i.e from 10:00pm-6:00am. As a mathematics student, my calculation says that is one-third of a day. This invariably implies that we are expected to sleep for one-third of our lives respectively because our time is our life or maybe I will be as right as rain to say we have been sleeping for one-third of our lives respectively.
The above analysis shows that every 18years old have slept for 6years!!! Wait, some of us still find time for that ‘so much needed nap’ during the day so for some, it is actually more. Now subtract the time you spend watching movies, playing games, gisting, chatting etc you will discover that an average of us have less than 10hours of our day to ourselves respectively. We hardly find that moment in each day designed personally for us by us to think, dream and grow and yet we have gigantic aspirations in life. Such aspirations that can not be brought down by one billion haleluyahs unlike the wall of jericho.

A man with terminal cancer was desperate to get married but didn't want to leave a heartbroken widow. So he got married to a sex doll.
His tasteful wedding pictures have become a viral sensation in his native China.
The Beijing man reportedly wanted to experience a fancy wedding shoot before he died, so he bought the life-like inflatable doll and got a make up artisy and a beautiful wedding dress.
In the pictures he is seen tenderly holding his plastic 'bride', enjoying a first dance in a ballroom and even taking part in candid shots in front of the make-up mirror.
The 28-year-old man's name is unknown, but Chinese netizens offered a series of explanations for the pictures, with many dismissing it as a bizarre viral marketing stunt.
CCTV reported: "Some netizens recently revealed that the man is actually suffering from a deadly cancer.
"In order not to hurt other people's feelings, he chose to marry an artificial doll instead of a real person."
The photographer who snapped the series of pictures defended the man's unusual nuptials.
She said that even if she didn’t necessarily agree with the man’s choice of marrying a doll, he still deserved to be respected as a matter of personal freedom.

Burglar incarcerated for kissing sleeping man
A 32 year old man,Richard DeFeudis has been incarcerated for breaking into a home and sexually molesting a man while he slept.
According to reports, DeFeudis broke into a house at Oregon, stripped and got in bed with a couple.

Elton John is back again
Elton John is back again.The 68 year old,British living legend announced earlier today that he will be releasing his 33rd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, on Feb. 5,2016. The album's lead single "Looking Up" is now out.
The new album was produced by Bone Burnett and coproduced by John himself.
Ten of the tracks on the album were cowritten by Bernie Taupin, the man behind John's 1989 single "Sacrifice".

Popular Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe on Wednesday October 21 was the cynosure of eyes at the magistrates’ court complex, Ogba, Lagos for a case of missing phone.
Police arraigned one Adenowo Idowu (38) on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing Aigbe’s BlackBerry Passport phone valued at N370,000 on October 19, 2015 at 10, Adeyemi Akapo Street, Omole, Ojodu in Lagos state.
According to police prosecutor, Corporal Una Michael, the defendant conspired with one other person at large to commit the alleged crime punishable under sections 309 and 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos state.
When the charge was read to him, Adenowo pleaded not guilty.
His counsel, Akintunde Salami leading Mrs. E.N Ubekile pleaded that the court admit the suspect to bail in the most liberal terms; Mr. C.O Alonge appeared for Aigbe.
The presiding magistrate in Ikeja Court 12, Mrs. A.O Gbajumo asked if any item was recovered but the answer was in the negative.
The police prosecutor did not object the bail application. But he informed the court that his three witnesses, Aigbe, the IPO, Woman Sergeant Helen Olawoyin were present in court.
Mrs. Gbajumo granted bail to Adenowo in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till November 11, 2015 for mention. The suspect will be remanded in prison until bail conditions are met.

Celine Dion gets 4000 songs for new album
A tsunami of songs,floods Dion's website after she made a public appeal for songs on her new French album.
Aldo,CEO of Les Feeling production and Rene Angeli,Claudette Dion's were stunned at the number of songs sent from different francophone countries.
About 4000 songs were sent but only 25 songs will be chosen. A public vote on Dion's website will determine which of the 25 songs will appear on the album

are predictions that the British songstress might
