Six shows to watch this week

1. "Fear the Walking Dead," 9 p.m. ET Sunday, AMC

It was almost a given that AMC would seek to mine the hugely successful zombie series "The Walking Dead" for yet more thrills. The new show takes place in Los Angeles, rather than Georgia, at the beginning of the outbreak.

"People will be surprised that these new characters are compelling and have different issues," said Gale Anne Hurd, an executive producer on both "Walking Dead" shows. "Many of our viewers will actually be ahead of the characters in terms of knowing what's coming."

Hurd said the new series will show "the full spectrum of how humanity would respond."

"Some characters say, 'You don't know what you're dealing with; this isn't going away; you need weapons; otherwise you won't survive.' Then you have characters who still think these people are really, really sick. Can you reason with them or snap them out of it?"

2. "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever," midnight Sunday, Adult Swim

For fans of this surreal animated comedy, the adventures of Master Shake, Meatwad and Frylock make "South Park," "Family Guy" and "Bob's Burgers" seem normal, and they like it that way.

After 11 seasons, the show that helped define the offbeat sensibilities of Adult Swim (a Time Warner network, like CNN) is going off the air, and producers promise a finale that stays true to the bizarre humor we've come to expect.

3. "Public Morals," 9 p.m. Tuesday, TNT

Steven Spielberg and Ed Burns teamed up for this 1960s show about the Public Morals Division of the New York Police Department, where temptation and corruption are always threats. (TNT is also a Time Warner network.)

4. "Mr. Robot," 10 p.m. ET Wednesday, USA

Critics have praised this summer series about a paranoid security engineer-turned-hacktivist. The season finale airs this week, but it will return for season 2 next year.

5. "Blunt Talk," 9 p.m. ET Saturday, Starz

Patrick Stewart returns to TV as an outrageous cable news host. Call it the opposite of "The Newsroom." (If you missed the series premiere by the time you read this, it's available here.)

6. "Hannibal," 10 p.m. ET Saturday, NBC

Hardcore Fannibals are still holding out hope that another network will pick up a fourth season, but until then, NBC will air its final episode of the critically acclaimed horror series "Hannibal," wrapping up the storyline based on the Hannibal Lecter novel "Red Dragon."
